How long will it take to complete?
Please allow 2-4 weeks from requesting your portrait to receiving the completed drawing, however should you require the portrait sooner than this, please contact me as it may still be possible.
How do I send my photo?
You can send your picture by e-mail, Whatsapp, messenger or by post. If you send your photo by post, I will of course return it on completion of the drawing. Ideally, it's a good idea to send several photos of the same subject that I might select from. I'll be able to choose which picture will make the best drawing for you. Please remember, the sharper and clearer the photo, the better the drawing.
Will my portrait be shown on your website?
I would only include your drawing on the website after asking your permission. If you do not want it shown, I will not show it.
What size will my portrait be?
I tend to draw single portraits on A3 size CassArt Heavyweight Cartridge paper (11.7 x 16.5 in or 297 x 420mm) and two or more subjects on A2 (16.5 x 23.4 in or 420 x 594mm) however, if you have a specific size in mind, let me know. Smaller portraits for example, on Strathmore Toned Gray paper will be 9 x 12 in or 227 x 305mm. Animal portraits are typically drawn on A3 pastelmat, and can be colour or black and white.
How much will it cost?
The cost of an A3 pencil portrait is £150, and two subjects typically drawn side by side landscape style on A2 size paper is £200. Smaller portraits on toned paper are £100. Colour portraits of pets (dogs, cats etc) are drawn with polychromos pencils on A3 pastelmat paper and are priced at £200.
The price for three or more subjects can be agreed upon prior to commencement of the drawing, as factors such as whether the drawing is head-and-shoulders or full-body will be considered, and I will always endeavour to reach an agreement to accommodate your budget. You are of course under no obligation to buy the completed drawing unless you are one hundred per cent happy with it, and I'm happy to say I have received nothing but very positive feedback on all my drawings and have never been asked to make alterations or return money.
Is a deposit required?
Not always. I would only ask for a 20% deposit on three or more subject drawings due to the time they take, however on single or double subject portraits I would only ask for full payment once you are happy with the completed work.
How do I pay for my drawing?
The easiest way to pay is a BACS transfer. You can also pay by cash or cheque, and your drawing will be sent as soon as the cheque clears.
Will my portrait be framed?
The completed portraits are not framed as standard, however if you would like your portrait framed, this can be arranged. I would ask the style and colour of frame you would like and provide you with a cost before proceeding. Typically the cost of framing an A3 size portrait is £15, and larger bespoke frames would be priced when the exact required size is known.
Will my drawing be treated?
All drawings are treated with Winsor & Newton fixative to seal the graphite or charcoal and to prevent smudging.
Can I get a refund if I'm not happy?
In the unlikely event that you are not completely satisfied with your drawing, please return it within 10 days and you will receive a full refund.
I will only start drawing after we have agreed the details and cost of your portrait and you are happy for me to proceed. Once complete, I will send you a photograph of your portrait for your approval and, if you are happy, mail you the drawing once payment has been received. An sms message will be sent to your mobile to tell you that the photograph of your portrait has been e-mailed to you.
